Southeast PRISM Higher Education
Institute
AASU Roundtable
Forums
One of the PRISM project's many
interconnected strategies is the formation of a PRISM
Higher Education Institute. In
particular, this Institute is the realization of Strategy Four.
The Higher Ed Institute is meant to support faculty endeavors to
improve the teaching and learning of undergraduate science and mathematics.
Our PRISM Institute goal is to share what is working in our classrooms,
study educational research topics, and work on designing and implementing
educational research projects in our science and mathematics classes.
Southeast PRISM Institute members receive full support to attend
two annual statewide conferences, attend monthly round table forums
on campus and participate in the development of regional educational
research projects. Some documents which define the Statewide and
Regional Institutes are: Strategy
Four one-pager, Statewide
Institute Defining Document, Regional
Institute Summary, and the current Southeast
Regional Institute Plan.
- Statewide PRISM Higher Education
Institute Meeting: All AASU and CGCC STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics) or Education faculty with interest
in improving undergraduate science and math education are welcome
to participate in these biannual Teaching & Learning conferences.
All participants are fully funded by the state PRISM grant. Interested
faculty should contact Sabrina Hessinger at 921-2059 or hessina@mail.armstrong.edu.

- Southeast Regional PRISM Teaching
& Learning Round Table: One goal of the PRISM Institute
is to engage faculty from across colleges in collaborations and
research projects which result in improved teaching and learning
in college level science and math courses. We have reestablished
a luncheon forum, "PRISM Higher Education Institute Teaching
and Learning Round Table," in collaboration with the AASU
Office of Faculty Development. We use this round table discussion
to delve deeper into the topics which are presented at the statewide
Institute meetings. In this way we share what we learned at the
statewide meeting with our campus colleagues, we discuss these
topics in the context of our own courses, and we collaboratively
generate ideas for implementing what we learned in our own classrooms.
Through our regional Round Table discussions, the Southeast PRISM
Higher Education Institute seeks to pull together and support
faculty at AASU and CGCC with interest in:
- Engaging in collaborative research with K-12 schools
- Engaging in research projects which seek to improve the content
and delivery of college level courses.
- Engaging in departmental discussions about improving content
and delivery of college level courses.
- Working collaboratively across disciplines and across colleges
toward the common goal of improving K-16 science and math education.
Official flyers will come through the office of Faculty development.
